Fire damages Edina home
Edina, Minn., Nov. 1, 2014 – The Edina Fire Department was called to the 6900 block of Moccasin Valley
Road at 10:13 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, after receiving reports of a house fire.
Fire crews arrived to discover a working structure fire with heavy flames coming from the attached garage of
the three-story home. Firefighters were able to contain the fire, which was primarily in the garage. However,
there was extensive smoke damage throughout the home and it is currently uninhabitable. No injuries were
reported.
At this time, the probable cause of the fire appears to have been carelessly discarded ashes from a
recreational fire.
“It’s very important to properly dispose of ashes after a fire in your fireplace or outdoors,” said Fire Marshal
Jeff Siems. “Let the ashes and coals cool for several days in the area where you had the fire and then dispose
of the ashes or coals in a metal container and wet them down.”
For the two-alarm fire, the Edina Fire Department received mutual aid from the Bloomington, Eden Prairie,
Richfield and St. Louis Park fire departments.
