Fire damages Edina damages apartment, one injured
Edina, Minn., Nov. 11, 2014 – The Edina Fire Department was called to the 6600 block of Vernon Avenue
at 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, after receiving reports of a fire alarm sounding.
Fire crews arrived to discover smoke on the third floor and a resident extinguishing the fire. However, the
unit was significantly damaged and sent smoke down the hallways. One adult female was taken to a local
hospital after suffering from apparent smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
“The importance of working smoke alarms cannot be understated,” said Fire Marshal Jeff Siems. “You should
exit the building immediately upon hearing the fire alarms sound, even if you don’t see any signs of a fire right
away.”
Siems also reminds residents to test their smoke alarms monthly and replace the batteries twice a year.
The Edina Fire Department received mutual aid from the Hopkins, Minnetonka and St. Louis Park fire
departments.
