Progress Made on Memorial to Commemorate Edina Veterans
Edina, Minn., Nov. 6, 2014 – With the recognition of Veterans Day this week, the City of Edina Veterans
Memorial Committee looks forward to the completion of the new Veteran’s Memorial in Utley Park at the
corner of Wooddale Avenue and 50th Street.
“The Veterans Memorial Committee is looking forward to this opportunity to recognize the veterans of Edina,”
said Committee Chair Richard Olson. “We want to thank the community, individual donors, the Edina
Community Foundation, the City of Edina, the State of Minnesota and any other individuals who have helped to
make this memorial possible.”
The Edina Veterans Memorial will be a unifying symbol of shared community values in honoring all Edina
veterans of the nation’s armed forces – past, present and future. There are 32 native and adopted sons of Edina
who died in a time of war who will be individually remembered through this memorial.
Significant progress toward completion has already been made on the site. The footings, landscaping, electrical
and irrigation have all been installed. The granite pavers will be installed in the plaza within the next couple of
weeks, with the final pieces being placed early in the spring of 2015.
“The sculptures have already been completed and will be installed in the spring of 2015 with the granite base,”
explained Committee Staff Liaison and Recreation Supervisor Kristin Aarsvold. “It’s very exciting to see the
progress and we look forward to seeing the finished memorial in time for the Memorial Day dedication
ceremony.”
Aarsvold encourages community members and donors to save the date for the ceremony in the spring. The
ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 25, in Utley Park.
