FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Join the Step To It Challenge to Get Active, Win Prizes
Edina, Minn., April 20, 2022 – Whether you walk or wash the car, push a wheelchair or vacuum, you can participate in the Step To It Challenge, win prizes and help Edina beat other Hennepin
County communities in the fitness activity.
The monthlong challenge begins May 1. It’s free to participate, and anyone of any age or ability can join in.
Participants don’t need to start a new activity, as many daily tasks and games, from gardening to softball, count as steps. You track your own activity and simply submit the information.
Each activity is converted to steps, so a minute of Tai chi is 121 steps, or a minute of house cleaning is 91 steps.
Those steps can quickly add up: Edina’s top stepper in 2021 logged more than 1 million steps. The Edina winner in the age 65 and up category counted almost 427,000 steps.
Last year, Edina was beaten out by Brooklyn Park and Minnetonka Beach. Help Edina win this year by selecting Edina as the community to walk for when you sign up, whether you live or
work here.
Even those who aren’t very active are encouraged to sign up, as the whole point is to promote more activity. Even a few steps a day helps the participant, and the City’s overall point
total.
“We want everyone to join in,” Recreation Supervisor Nicole Gorman said. “It’s an easy, fun way to get motivated to be a little healthier and happier.” She recommends signing up with
friends, family or co-workers to encourage activity or compete against each other.
Prizes include tickets to a Minnesota Twins game.
Sign up now at StepToIt.org; activity tracking begins May 1.
Previous participants will need to create a new account each year as the old ones are deleted annually for privacy.
