Thursday, October 13, 2022 7:00 PM I.Call To Order Chair Martinez called the meeting to order at 7:02pm. II.Roll Call Answering roll call were Chair Martinez, Vice Chair Horan, Commissioners Haugen, Hovanec, Lanzas, Lukens, Tessman and Schima, Student Commissioners Machart and Rawat. Late: Commissioner Dakane III.Approval Of Meeting Agenda Motion by Michelle Horan to Approve Meeting Agenda. Seconded by Tom Tessman. Motion Carried. IV.Approval Of Meeting Minutes A.Minutes: Energy and Environment Commission September 8, 2022 Motion by John Haugen to Approve Meeting Minutes. Seconded by Hilda Martinez Salgado. Motion Carried. V.Special Recognitions And Presentations A.Special Presentation: Center for Energy & Environment CEE presenter was unable to join EEC, so this item was not completed. B.Special Presentation: Semi-annual Climate Action Plan Update EEC received a progress report on 2022 Climate Actions underway. VI.Community Comment No community comment was received During "Community Comment," the Board/Commission will invite residents to share relevant issues or concerns. Individuals must limit their comments to three minutes. The Chair may limit the number of speakers on the same issue in the interest of time and topic. Generally speaking, items that are elsewhere on tonight's agenda may not be addressed during Community Comment. Individuals should not expect the Chair or Board/Commission Members to respond to their comments tonight. Instead, the Board/Commission might refer the matter to staff for consideration at a future meeting. VII.Reports/Recommendations A.2022 Workplan Progress Discussion EEC discussed progress on its 2022 work plan, including a timeline to wrap up its final unfinished work plan item, plastic bags recommendation. B.Monthly call for communication requests EEC requested publicity to raise awareness of the newly passed residential tree protection ordinance. EEC requested a communications campaign to celebrate businesses who are already participating in Green to Go packaging EEC requested a communications campaign to recognize green businesses via a business spotlight profile, one business per quarter Student Commissioner Rawat volunteered to help write these spotlights EEC requested a series of communications videos, "PSA style," to promote core initiatives. EEC brainstormed that these PSAs could be shown at Edina Theatre, including topics like Green Business Recognition Program, No Mow May, etc. EEC requested that Communications Department consider allowing a student commissioner instagram takeover. VIII.Chair And Member Comments Chair Martinez invited all Members to make comments around the room. IX.Staff Comments Liaison Hancock notified Commissioners that Fartun Ismail (Somali American Women Action Center (SAWAC)) will be honored as a Hometown Hero at the Oct. 18 City Council meeting. X.Adjournment The EEC meeting was adjourned at 8:12pm. Motion by Bayardo Lanzas to Adjourn. Seconded by Tom Tessman. Motion Carried.
