FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
City pilots Yorktown Park Community Garden
Edina, Minn., March 26, 2013 – The City of Edina is piloting a Community Garden at Yorktown Park, 7335
York Ave. Registration for residents began Thursday, April 4.
Since this is a new project, the Parks & Recreation Department is requesting applications for a garden plot be
submitted as soon as possible.
Although garden plots are available on a first come, first served basis, residents and people who work in Edina
have first priority. Gardeners of all skill-sets are welcome.
Gardeners may begin planting on May 18, weather permitting. All gardens must be planted by June 3. If
registrants are unable to meet this deadline, they should contact the City of Edina.
Gardeners may rent one plot per household. Plots are assigned to one person only and are non-transferable.
Others may garden at your site, but the responsibility for payment of fees, clean-up and other duties at the
site will be the responsibility of the individual whose name is assigned to the plot. The City will provide a
water source, but participants must bring a bucket and their own gardening tools as there is no on-site
storage.
In conjunction with the pilot Yorktown Park Community Garden, the Edina Parks & Recreation Department
is holding Garden Basic classes that will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 5, April 19 and May 17 at the
Southdale YMCA. Participants may attend any or all of the classes. No registration is needed.
Gardens are available in plot sizes of 10' x 10' for $25 or 10' x 15' for $30. Registration materials, as well as a
list of the rules and policies, can be downloaded at www.EdinaParks.com, under the Yorktown Park
Community Garden link.
