FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Community Garden Grand Opening to be Held May 20
Edina, Minn., May 9, 2013 – The City of Edina’s Parks & Recreation Department will celebrate the grand
opening of the Yorktown Park Community Garden 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 20.
The public is invited to attend the event, which will include healthy refreshments, seed art for kids presented
by the Edina Art Center, and more.
Master Gardener Larry Cipolla will be on hand to answer questions and there will be a chance for attendees
to win a Gardener’s Supply Box courtesy of Tangletown Gardens. Visitors are also encouraged to learn how
to donate their own produce to VEAP and more about the Edina Garden Council. People are also encouraged
to bring their extra seeds for a seed exchange.
The Community Garden, located near the Southdale YMCA, is a pilot project. Ten-by-10 and 10-by-15 garden
plots were available for a fee on a first come, first served basis. All plots were reserved within days of
becoming available. Gardeners may begin planting their plots May 18. All gardens must be planted by June 3.
The City will provide a water source, but participants must bring a bucket and their own gardening tools as
there is no on-site storage.
For more information, call the Edina Parks & Recreation Department at 952-826-0367.
