FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Edina Police Reserve receives Leadership Award
Edina, Minn., May 15, 2013 – Shortly after retiring as Edina Police Reserve Captain, Browder Stone
accepted the Minnesota Police Reserve Officers Association’s Leadership Award at an annual meeting of the
Edina Reserves on May 9.
Stone has spent 16 years with the Edina Reserve, volunteering more than 4,000 hours. While serving as
captain, Stone was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the reserve force, including training,
recruiting, ordering uniforms and handling much of the reserve’s strategic planning for large community
events.
“Browder didn’t win this – he earned this recognition,” said fellow Reserve Officer Dawn Hart. “I hope the
rest of us Reserves, with Browder as our example, can represent Edina with a high degree of professionalism,
dedication and honor.”
The Leadership Award honors those in law enforcement across Minnesota who go beyond the call of duty
and work behind the scenes to manage reserve units and serve their agencies in leadership roles.
Stone was instrumental in securing reserves for several Presidential motorcade details, numerous marathons,
police officers’ funerals and community events such as the Edina Art Fair and Fourth of July fireworks in
Rosland Park. Stone has served as an instructor for the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Reserve Academy, where
he taught traffic control technique and has served as a resource for reserve officers across the state.
Sgt. Kevin Rofidal, who nominated Stone for the award, said Stone’s efforts have enhanced the safety of Edina
and the efficiency of the police reserve program.
“His diligence, perseverance and devotion to duty are most heartily commended,” said Rofidal, “and are kept
within the highest traditions of the Edina Police Department.”
