FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Police ‘Focus In’ on curfew
Edina, Minn., May 30, 2013 – As a part of the 2013 “Focus In” campaign, Edina patrol officers will focus
efforts on curfew during the month of June.
June marks the end of the school year. Reminding students and parents of curfew laws early can prevent
youth from getting involved in something that could negatively affect their future.
Curfew times are as follows: Juveniles 12 and under, 9 p.m. on weekdays and 10 p.m. on weekends; juveniles
12 to 14, 10 p.m. on weekdays and 11 p.m. on weekends; and juveniles 15 to 17, 11 p.m. on weekdaysand
midnight on weekends. Exclusions to the law can be found at www.EdinaMN.gov under “City Code.”
Education will include a warning to those who violate the statutes or codes. In extenuating circumstances, a
citation may be issued.
“Focus In” is a campaign aimed to educate the public and gain compliance with various state statutes and
ordinances. The violations the Police Department focuses on have seasonal relevance, affect the quality of life
in Edina or pose safety risks to residents. All statutes will be enforced year-round, but additional attention will
be paid to the focus of the month.
This year, Police have already focused on obstructed vision, failure to signal, unsafe equipment and failure to
display headlights and bike safety. In following months, police will “Focus In” on pedestrian safety, child and
seatbelt safety, school bus stop arm protocol, speed in school zones, night and snow parking, and the “move
over” law.
