Human Rights & Relations Commission seeks members for
Community Outreach Working Group
Edina, Minn., May 7, 2013 –The Edina Human Rights & Relations Commission (HRRC) seeks volunteers to
serve on its Community Outreach Working Group.
The working group will identify, recommend and plan a process to gain an understanding of community needs
related to demographic changes in Edina. The group will work with City departments, including the Police and
Parks & Recreation departments, and community partners such as Edina Public Schools and the Edina Resource
Center. All working group recommendations will be presented to the HRRC for approval or recommendation
to the City Council.
Edina residents who have an interest or background in diversity and/or civic engagement would be good
candidates. It is anticipated that the working group will meet monthly in the evenings.
The diversity outreach process is part of a greater City initiative to make all residents of Edina feel included and
welcomed. “Edina has seen increased diversity in recent years. We are looking for a way to reach out and build
engagement with all members of the community,” said John Cashmore, HRRC member and Chair of the
Community Outreach Working Group.
Volunteers interested in joining the Community Outreach Working Group should apply by 4:30 p.m. Friday,
May 17, by sending their name, address, contact information and a short summary of how their background
compliments the working group’s mission to Edinamail@EdinaMN.gov or HRRC, Edina City Hall, 4801 W. 50th
St., Edina, MN 55424. Candidates will be interviewed and a list of proposed working group members will be
presented to the HRRC in late May.
