FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Edina Police remind residents to remove valuables, lock vehicles
Edina Thefts from Vehicles Ahead of 2012
Edina, Minn., July 30, 2013 — Due to an increase in thefts from autos around the City, the Edina
Police Department reminds residents to take preventive measures.
“Remember to remove all valuables from your vehicle -- including the garage door opener -- and lock
your doors. Exterior garage lighting is a good idea, too,” said Crime Prevention Specialist Molly
Anderson. “Don’t hesitate to call 9-1-1 if you see or hear anything suspicious.”
Thefts from autos have increased 55 percent from this time last year, with 33 residential thefts from
autos reported between June 1 and July 28 this summer. Of those 33, 24 of the thefts involved unlocked
or open vehicles. The loss for the 33 reported thefts totals more than $23,000.
Since the thefts aren’t isolated to one area, the Edina Police Department has increased overnight patrol
to include more unmarked squads and bicycles throughout the City.
