FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Workshop on neighborhood associations set for Sept. 28
Edina, Minn., Sept. 4, 2013 – Need a “Neighborhood Association 101?” The City of Edina will host
its first neighborhood workshop later this month to educate residents the new neighborhood
association policy. Current neighborhood leaders and other experts will talk about the value
neighborhood associations can add to the community.
Recognized neighborhood associations foster communication by distributing information so that
residents can make informed decisions; enabling two-way communication between neighborhoods
and city government on matters of interest such as zoning changes, redevelopment projects, park
projects and small area plans; and creating smaller venues for interaction. Recognized
neighborhood associations also build community through cooperative action by organizing voluntary
projects based on community interests; supporting other City programs such as Adopt-a-Park,
Neighbors Home Watch and Nite to Unite; promoting social activities; and ensuring neighborhood
safety and security.
The workshop will be held 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Edina Senior Center, 5280
Grandview Square. There, participants will learn about:
• The benefits of neighborhood associations and how to overcome common challenges
• How to start organizing your neighborhood
• The City’s recognition process and resources available for associations
• Leveraging technology to communicate within your neighborhood
Light refreshments will be provided. RSVP to mail@edinamn.gov. For more information about
neighborhood associations or the workshop, contact City Manager Intern Annie Johnson, 952-826-
0429.
