Also placing were second-place finisher “Egghead” by Kimber Fiebiger of Minneapolis and third-place winner “Leap Frog” by Art Norby of New London. Kregel takes home a $1,000 award, while the runners-up received prizes of $750 and $500, respectively. Each sculptor can receive an additional $500 if they allow their pieces to be displayed an additional year. “Kregel’s sculpture created a buzz in the city from the day it was installed last May,” said Barbara La Valleur, Chair of Edina Public Art Committee, organizer of the exhibit. Located at Grandview Square Park across from the Edina Senior Center, the artistic horse is the seventh horseshoe sculpture created by Bloomington artist Kregel. Additional sculptures are located at 50th & France in downtown Edina, and along the Edina Promenade. This year there were 11 new sculptures on display and over 400 ballots were cast by local residents. “We’re very pleased that we had more votes this year than ever before which shows that residents and visitors enjoy Edina’s expanding public art exhibit,” La Valleur said. “The quality of work is exceptional this year, and I encourage everyone to visit the pieces in person to see the detail and artistry of each sculpture,” said Edina Art Center General Manager Michael Frey. With public art growing in Edina, members of the Edina Public Art Committee, along with Frey, are collaborating with Fairview Southdale representatives to include public art in the new $39 million Carl N. Platou Emergency Center expansion, expected to be completed in 2015. Plans include public art both inside and outside the new medical facility.
