Community Television Administrator to lead free workshops Nov. 15, 19
Edina, Minn., Oct. 31, 2013 – The City is Edina is now managing playback of the public and education
access channels available to Comcast subscribers the cities of Eden Prairie, Edina, Hopkins, Minnetonka and
Richfield. Together, the five cities make up the Southwest Suburban Cable Commission.
As of Sept. 1, Comcast no longer manages the playback of educational and public access programming for
Southwest Community Television. The playback is coordinated by the City of Edina and its Community
Television Administrator, Nathalie Gage. All of the necessary equipment for playback was paid for by the
Southwest Suburban Cable Commission.
Comcast subscribers can view the educational access channel on Channel 14. Programming is produced by
the six school districts in the commission’s service footprint area -- Eden Prairie, Edina, Hopkins, Minnetonka,
Richfield and Wayzata.
The public access channel is Channel 15. Any producer living in the five cities can submit content for the
channel. Residents of Eden Prairie, Edina, Hopkins, Minnetonka and Richfield can sponsor programming
produced by a non-resident.
Gage will lead free workshops with public access producers 7-9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15 and Tuesday, Nov. 19.
During the workshops, she will go over the Commission’s policies, provide tips for preparing digital media
files and teach producers how to upload programming to a secure server.
The government access channel is Channel 16. Later this month, a high-definition government access channel
in the 800 series will also be available in Eden Prairie and Edina.
