Art Center Board seeks volunteers for working group
Edina, Minn., Feb. 9, 2012 -- The Edina Art Center Board is looking for volunteers to serve on its new
Art & Culture Working Group, charged with developing a vision and strategic plan for art and culture in the
community.
Goals of the working group will be set by its members, but will be related to the mission established by the
City Council in December 2011. The group will begin its work by completing an “art inventory” to identify
organizations, venues and activities where art and culture are produced and consumed in Edina. Members
will also identify activities outside of Edina in which residents participate.
“We want to bring together the many Edina residents who are involved in or have an interest in cultural
activities. These may include performing arts, literature, crafts, painting, media arts, sculpture or any of the
many other possible interests,” said Art Center Board Chair Bill McCabe. “The group will identify
opportunities for augmenting the Edina art scene and establish a vision for future development.”
The process is expected to include several meetings, the formation of sub-groups on specific interests and
lots of conversation in the community. McCabe and fellow Art Center Board members Thomas Raeuchle
and Hafed Bouassida hope the working group will complete its work and make recommendations to the
Art Center Board and City Council before the end of the year.
The Art & Culture Working Group will meet 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 8 in the Fireside Room of the
Edina Senior Center, 5280 Grandview Square. Anyone interested in participating in the working group
should attend the meeting. The group’s future meeting schedule will likely be established at the initial
meeting.
