Heritage Preservation Board to Offer Course on
Historic Home Maintenance
Edina, Minn., March 1, 2012 - Was your house built prior to 1960? If so, mark your calendar for Saturday,
May 5, when the Edina Heritage Preservation Board will sponsor a one-time course called “Caring for Your
Old House: The Basics” to kick off National Preservation Month.
The class will run from 1 to 4 p.m. and cover topics of importance to a wide swathe of area homeowners,
including energy conservation strategies, window repair and restoration, and how to design architecturally
compatible building additions.
“Educating the public on Edina’s rich heritage is an important component of the Heritage Preservation Board’s
work,” said Associate Planner Joyce Repya, staff liaison to the Board. “This class is a great way for the City to
celebrate its history and educate the public at the same time.”
“Caring for Your Old House” will be held, fittingly, at Minnehaha Grange Hall – Edina’s original Village Hall
and one of the oldest structures in the city limits. The Grange Hall is located in Tupa Park at 4918 Eden Ave.,
opposite Edina City Hall. The cost is $15.
Heading a panel of three or four industry professionals will be Robert Vogel of architectural consulting firm
Pathfinder CRM, LLC. Vogel boasts over 30 years of professional experience in historic preservation and is
currently serving as City of Edina’s preservation planning consultant.
