Edina Fire Department Looking For Paid-On-Call Firefighters
Edina, Minn., May 2, 2012 – Did you want to be a firefighter when you were younger? The City of Edina is
offering the chance to dabble in the excitement of fighting fires! The Edina Fire Department is looking for
paid-on-call firefighters, sometimes called “volunteer firefighters.”
Paid-on-call firefighters are critical in ensuring the safety of our community. No prior experience is required
to be a paid-on-call firefighter. If you are over 18, are able to pass a multi-faceted physical ability test, live
within 10 minutes of Edina Fire Station No. 1 at 6250 Tracy Ave. and have a strong desire to serve your
community, you could be qualified to join Edina’s firefighting family. All training is provided upon hiring.
Paid-on-call firefighters train as a group and work on call through the use of pagers. Volunteers must work a
minimum of six hours per month.
According to Edina Fire Chief Marty Scheerer, serving as a paid-on-call firefighter is a challenging and
rewarding way to give back to the community. “Knowing you are helping save your Edina neighbor’s property,
or even lives, is a very rewarding and satisfying feeling,” he said. “While the training is physically demanding, it
is completely worth it.”
Applications for paid-on-call firefighters will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 18. Information on
qualifications, the recruiting process, testing dates and physical ability tests are available at
www.EdinaMN.gov/jobs.
The Edina Fire Department is made of 31 full-time firefighter/paramedics and 14 paid-on-call firefighters. For
more information or to apply, visit www.EdinaMN.gov/jobs.
