FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
‘Name Your Neighborhood’ Effort Begins
Edina, Minn., May 8, 2012 – On May 30, Edina residents are invited to attend the first “Name Your
Neighborhood” community meeting.
The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. at the Edina Senior Center, 5280 Grandview Square. During the meeting,
participants will have the opportunity to brainstorm ideas for neighborhood boundaries and names within
the City of Edina and learn more about the benefits of neighborhood associations.
The May 30 meeting is the first in a series of three public meetings. Additional meetings will be held on July 11
and Sept. 12 at the same time and location. “The neighborhood identification process will be reiterative,” said
Assistant City Manager Karen Kurt. “We’ll start by generating ideas at the first meeting and move to
evaluating specific map options in the second and third meetings. The goal is to develop a city-wide
neighborhood map with broad community input for City Council approval by year end.”
Once neighborhood boundaries and names are approved, residents will have the opportunity to voluntarily
form City-recognized neighborhood associations.
The Name Your Neighborhood project is being led by a steering committee of 11 resident volunteers. For
more information, contact Susan Howl, 952-826-0403 or showl@EdinaMN.gov.
