FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
‘Surf Into Summer’ at the Edina Aquatic Center
Edina, Minn., May 21, 2012 – The Edina Aquatic Center is building excitement for its new amenity, The
Lost Wave, opening June 9.
The Lost Wave is a "wave in a box," giving Midwesterners the chance to surf in their own backyard.
Rather than being a thrill-based ride, The Lost Wave is an amenity that requires the development of
surfing skill. While patrons with wakeboarding and snowboarding experience may have a leg up,
swimmers of varying skill levels are invited to give surfing a try! To body board, a swimmer must be
at least 42 inches tall. To stand up, a swimmer must be at least 52 inches tall.
The Lost Wave gives novices a chance to try a board sport in a safe environment, but also provides a
challenge for experienced surfers. While a veteran rider may develop the ability to do tricks, the
newbie can simply enjoy riding the wave, all while building confidence "hanging 10."
The Aquatic Center is giving away daily admission or season passes each week for the next month as
part of its “Surf Into Summer” contest:
Week 1: May 28 - June 3 -- If you were a pirate, what would your name be?
Week 2: June 4-10 -- Submit your best pirate or surfer look. Send us a photo, drawing or video.
Week 3: June 11-17 -- Imagine mastering The Lost Wave. How will you celebrate “hanging ten?” Send us a
written description, photo, drawing or video.
Week 4: June 18-24 -- Submit a video of you practicing for the opening of The Lost Wave.
All submissions become property of the City of Edina. Submissions must include the entrant’s first name and
age. Enter online at www.Facebook.com/EdinaAquaticCenter or via email at mail@EdinaMN.gov. Entries sent
via email will also be posted on the Edina Aquatic Center’s Facebook page. Winners will be notified via
Facebook or email.
