FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Edina Police K-9 and Handler Compete Nationally
Edina, Minn., June 20, 2012 – Edina Police Officer Mike Seeger and K-9 partner Diesel placed 17th overall
in the United States Police Canine Association (USPCA) National Detector Trails in Lakeland, Fla.
More than 50 police canines from around the country competed in the competition in May.
Seeger and Diesel, who have been working together since 2006, competed in two detection events: an indoor
search where the K-9 is required to search a room for narcotics and an outdoor search where the K-9 is
required to search a vehicle for narcotics. Seeger and Diesel placed sixth in the nation in outdoor detection.
“I’m very proud of Diesel,” said Seeger. “I just hold the leash and he shows me the way.”
K-9 officers need to complete a regional certification each year. Those who meet a qualifying score regionally
are able to compete nationally.
Last year, Seeger and Diesel competed in the USPCA National Police Dog I Trials in Detroit Lakes, Minn.,
where the regional team placed fourth in the nation.
