FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Neighborhoods to Celebrate Night to Unite
Edina, Minn., June 20, 2012 – As the first Tuesday of August rolls around, so does Edina’s Night to Unite.
The annual event will take place in neighborhoods and parks around the City on Tuesday, Aug. 7 from 6 to
8:30 p.m.
The Edina Police Department encourages neighborhoods to join forces with communities statewide for Night
to Unite, a national crime prevention event. Residents are told to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and
spend the evening outdoors with neighbors.
“I’ve heard residents say they don’t want the night to end,” said last year’s Night to Unite coordinator, Kaylin
Martin, about the Night to Unite block parties. “It’s a great opportunity for neighbors to exchange contact
information, build new connections and strengthen old ones.”
Last year, nearly 100 Night to Unite block parties were registered with the City.
Officers are available to attend parties. Resources are limited, so register early to request an officer. The
deadline to register is Friday, July 27.
To register your block party or for more information, contact this year’s Night to Unite coordinator, Aimee
Canepa, at 952-826-0473 or acanepa@EdinaMN.gov. To apply for a block party permit, visit
www.EdinaMN.gov.
Night to Unite was created to promote neighborhood spirit, increase awareness in crime prevention and
build a stronger partnership between the Police Department and community members.
