Edina Parks & Recreation Department to Offer Free Pickleball
Clinics at Garden Park
Edina, Minn., June 21, 2012 – Looking to pick up a new sport this summer? The City of Edina’s Parks &
Recreation Department is hosting two free, hour-long pickleball clinics. The clinics will be held 9-10 a.m. and
6:30- 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, at Garden Park, 5520 Hansen Road.
Pickleball is a relatively new game, but one which all players will find somewhat familiar. Rules and regulations
combine elements from tennis, badminton and ping pong. The game is played with a wiffle ball and wooden
paddles.
Unlike its cousin tennis, “pickleball is a very accessible to just about everyone, regardless of age or athletic
ability,” said Donna Tilsner, Recreation Supervisor. It is played on a surface only about half the size of a
regulation tennis court, and the wiffle ball travels at only about a third of the speed of a tennis ball. “It is a
great family game; children and seniors can both excel.”
The clinics will teach you stroke technique and game strategies, plus give you an opportunity to play.
Equipment will be provided. The event is free of cost, but limited to adults. To reserve your spot, call Phyllis
Gwiazdon at 952-833-9572.
