New Ambulance Arrives at the Edina Fire Department
Edina, Minn., Oct. 10, 2012 – A new ambulance was recently added to the Edina Fire Department’s fleet of
vehicles. The new ambulance replaces an old truck, which was purchased in 2000.
“The old medic rig was no longer efficient,” said Edina Fire Chief Marty Scheerer. “The chassis was replaced in
2006, but the ongoing cost of other repairs became too costly. Because it needed to be taken out of
commission so often, it also became less reliable.”
The new ambulance features a tighter turning radius, better braking, greater access to rescue equipment and
medical storage. In addition, automatically deployable tire chains can be used for winter driving, helping to
decrease response time during inclement winter weather.
The new rig arrived at Edina Fire Department’s Station No. 1 in September. It cost approximately $165,000
less $15,000 trade-in. The last time the Fire Department purchased a new ambulance was in 2010.
