FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
‘Caroling Cops’ Collect Donations at City Hall
Edina, Minn., Dec. 18, 2012 – To collect donations for St. Joseph’s Home for Children, an assembly of
approximately 20 employees from the Edina Police Department caroled their way through Edina City Hall on
Monday, Dec. 17.
The “Caroling Cops” ended up raising more than $300 and six large bags of food and supplies for St. Joseph’s,
a charity with which the Edina Police Department works closely.
“Everyone here at the Police Department has had special children in their lives -- kids, grandkids, nieces,
nephews, cousins or neighbors,” said Crime Prevention Specialist Molly Anderson, who organized the caroling
event. “We have a large heart for children who are suffering.”
When police officers come across a child who is abused or whose parents are no longer able to care for him
or her, they take the child to St. Joseph’s Home for Children, a program of Catholic Charities of St. Paul and
Minneapolis. The organization serves children and their families by addressing immediate needs for shelter and
offering long-term solutions for emotional and behavioral issues with mental health care.
This is just one of the many charities the Edina Police Department takes time to support. Throughout the
year, employees have many opportunities to give back, including various Special Olympics events, City of
Edina blood drives and Feed My Starving Children.
Though this was the first year the “Caroling Cops” graced City Hall with their presence, Anderson says they
are already looking forward to next year.
“It was great to hear everyone singing and to see the looks on people’s faces in the departments we visited,”
said Anderson. “Part of the spirit here at the Police Department is service and giving back is an easy extension
of that spirit.”
