City Council Seeks Additional Comments On Neighborhood Maps
Edina, Minn., Dec. 12, 2012 – Edina residents have another chance to weigh in on proposed neighborhood
maps and a draft of the City’s Neighborhood Association Policy. The new maps and draft policy are awaiting
comments on the City’s civic engagement website, Speak Up, Edina!, at www.SpeakUpEdina.org/projects.
The Neighborhood Identification Steering Committee, which led the “Name Your Neighborhood” project,
presented its report and recommendation to the City Council in early December. Comments made by residents
during the course of the project were included in the report. The City Council is interested in hearing residents’
thoughts on the recommendations before a final decision is made in January.
“This is the last opportunity to comment on the proposed neighborhood names and boundaries,” said Assistant
City Manager Karen Kurt. “All comments we receive will be given to the City Council and will help them to
make the final decision.”
Residents can share their comments on the maps and draft policy through Jan. 15, 2013, at
www.SpeakUpEdina.org/projects. The City Council will hold a public hearing on the issue 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan.
22, 2013.
Once approved, residents in each neighborhood will have the option to voluntarily form a City-recognized
neighborhood association. Some goals of voluntary associations are to foster two-way communication between
neighborhoods and the City, promote community and civic engagement, and ensure neighborhood safety and
security.
