Edina Fire Department receives fire prevention grant
Edina, Minn., June 8, 2011 – The Edina Fire Department has been awarded a $1,800 fire
prevention grant from FM Global.
The grant will be presented by a representative of FM Global to the Edina Fire Department
at the July 5 City Council meeting at Edina City Hall, 4801 W. 50th St. The grant will be
used to print and distribute the Fire Department’s bi-monthly newsletter, EFD Pulse.
“At FM Global, we strongly believe the majority of property damage is preventable, not
inevitable,” said Michael Spaziani, manager of the fire prevention grant program at FM
Global. “Far too often, inadequate budgets prevent those organizations working to prevent
fire from being as proactive as they would like to be. With additional financial support, grant
recipients are actively helping to improve property risk in the communities they serve.”
The Edina Fire Department created EFD Pulse in 2008 to share news and information “to
protect what matters most.” Issues have been available exclusively online. This grant will
enable the Fire Department to print issues and distribute it to those who cannot get them
through the internet.
“We are very excited about this grant,” said Edina Fire Marshal Tom Jenson. “We don’t
have a budget to regularly print EFD Pulse. Even though it is temporary funding, we hope it
will make people more aware of it and draw them to read it regularly by seeking the
electronic version.”
