Edina Police Department Seeks Reserve Officers
Edina, Minn., July, 26, 2011 – The City of Edina’s Police Department is seeking volunteer Police
Reserve Officers to assist with patrol shifts, traffic control, special event security, training exercises
and mock disaster drills.
Applicants must be 21 years old; be a United States citizen; possess sound physical and mental
health, a high school diploma or GED, and a valid Minnesota driver’s license; have a history of good
personal conduct; pass a background investigation and an oral interview; be able to commit to 10
hours or more per month; attend monthly meetings and Hennepin County Sheriff’s Reserve School
for 10 weeks; and be available to patrol a Friday or Saturday evening once or twice a month.
Reserve Officer is not a paid position, but volunteers are provided a standard Reserve uniform and
equipment. There are approximately 20 Police Reserves in the department.
Events covered by Reserve Officers include SWAT Team Role Players, Junior Police, Race for the
Cure, Get Your Rear in Gear 5K Run, Edina Art Fair, Law Enforcement Torch Run, 4th of July
Parade and fireworks, Night to Unite, Masters 15K Run, MOCA Kids’ Run, Fall into the Arts
Festival, Edina High School home football games, Edina High School Homecoming Parade, 50th &
France Pumpkin Festival, hostage negotiations training and 50th & France holiday tree-lighting.
