FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Dates announced for GrandView Small Area Plan Workshops
Edina, Minn., Sept. 8, 2011 – The public is invited to attend and participate in the first
workshop for the GrandView Small Area Plan on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at the Grange
Hall, 4918 Eden Ave., across from Perkins. The workshop will be ongoing from 8 a.m. to
3:30 p.m.
Chris Rofidal, a member of the GrandView Small Area Plan Committee, said all
residents, property and businesses owners, and other interested parties are
encouraged to attend a public meeting the same evening at 6:30 p.m. in the Council
Chambers at Edina City Hall, 4801 W. 50th St.
“This first workshop is intended to give the public a baseline look at where we have
been with the process and where we are going,” Rofidal said. “Anyone can come to the
work sessions during the day, too.”
The work plan, which was approved by the City Council at its Sept. 6 meeting, provides
three stages to the creative process. "Discussion and Discovery" will be the focus of the
first workshop. According to Kevin Staunton, Steering Committee Chair, this step is
about learning from and listening to the Steering Committee, working groups and other
stakeholders; analyzing the study area and understanding the work done to-date and
clearly defining opportunities for the future. The workshop findings will be presented at
the 6:30 p.m. meeting.
Staunton said the workshops will provide an excellent opportunity to continue the
citizen-led process, which has been under way for the past 18 months. “It is never too
late to get involved. In fact, there are lots of decisions that are going to be made over
the next couple of months that will impact the GrandView area for years to come,” he
said.
At Workshop No. 2, to be held in late October, ideas, options, alternatives and future
uses for the GrandView District will be discussed. In the final stage, Workshop No. 3 will
be where the options of a preferred direction will be presented. The third meeting will be
in mid-November.
