City Receives Award for Excellence in Stormwater Management
Edina, Minn., Oct. 5, 2011 – The City of Edina recently received the Blue Star Award for
Excellence in Community Stormwater Management.
The award is given to communities in Minnesota that demonstrate having gone “above and
beyond” permit requirements for controlling stormwater pollution. The program organizers
determined the City has proven a commitment to protecting Minnesotans’ water resources,
public health, and quality of life after assessing its actions in three core areas:
Water-Friendly Planning and Preservation
Stormwater Management Standards and Practice
Stormwater Pollution Prevention
“I am pleased the stormwater management practices of the City of Edina are being recognized
with the Blue Star Award. The City will continue to work toward preserving and protecting the
natural resources within Edina,” said Utility Engineer Jesse Struve, who is responsible for Edina’s
stormwater management plan.
Blue Star Award Program administrator Trevor Russell congratulated the City, saying, “As
Minnesota communities look to protect our lakes, streams, and wetlands from stormwater
pollution, it is my hope that they will look to Edina as a model for excellence in stormwater
management.”
The award was presented at the Oct. 4 meeting of the Edina City Council.
