FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Public encouraged to share their views on the future of
GrandView at Oct. 27 open house
Edina, Minn., Oct. 10, 2011 –The public is encouraged to participate in an open house to help
determine the future of Edina’s GrandView area. The open house is a follow up to workshops held
in September.
“The September workshops were extremely successful. This month, we will transition our efforts by
reacting to design concepts, hearing from a wide variety of groups and beginning to narrow in on
specific ideas,” said GrandView Small Area Planning Committee Chair Kevin Staunton. “If you have
not been involved to date, there are numerous ways to have your voice heard. Since no final
decisions have been made, now is the time to participate.”
At the open house 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27 at the Edina Senior Center, 5280 Grandview
Square, the public will be asked to react to concepts being considered by the GrandView Small Area
Plan Steering Committee. During the open house, small group discussions will be facilitated, allowing
for public feedback.
Earlier in the week, the Steering Committee will hold meetings with various focus groups, which will
be asked to react and fill in details for numerous “framework concepts.” The Steering Committee is
actively seeking volunteers who fit the demographics below. On Tuesday, Oct. 25, the following
focus groups will meet at the Hughes Pavilion at Centennial Lakes Park, 7499 France Ave. S.:
Noon-1:30 p.m., Parents with school-aged children
4-5:30 p.m., Seniors, Educators, Property Owners in the GrandView Area
6-7:30 p.m., Teens, Business Operators in the GrandView Area, Commuters, Empty Nesters
7:30-9 p.m., Neighborhoods of GrandView, Bike Edina Task Force, Sports Groups, Singles
Finally, the Steering Committee is seeking input on various “Professional/Personal Experiences” for
the following topics: Legacy & Sustainability, Parks & Public Realm, Arts & Culture, Facilities &
Community Needs, History & Meaning of Place, and Transportation. If you have
professional/personal experience in these areas or to volunteer for one of the focus groups, please
contact Kevin Staunton at 612-743-7571or Chris Rofidal at 952 285-4459.
