Edina Liquor Food Drive Brings in Quadruple of 2010 Amounts
Edina, Minn., Nov. 10, 2011 – The results are in from Edina Liquor’s October food drive.
Between the three stores, 680 pounds of food and $1,023 was donated to benefit Volunteers
Enlisted to Assist People (VEAP), a non-profit agency serving low-income, senior and disabled
people in Edina, Bloomington, Richfield and south Minneapolis.
Each dollar collected equals one pound of food, making this year’s grand total 1,703 pounds of
food -- quadrupling last year’s results.
Steve Grausam, Liquor Operations Director, said he attributes much of this year’s success to
his staff. “Our staff asked each customer at checkout if they would like to donate $1 to VEAP.
The $1 was just added to their bill totals,” he said. “People don’t always remember to bring a
food item, so this was a great way to get them to still help out such a great cause.”
Grausam said this was Edina Liquor’s fourth year participating in the food drive. Edina Liquor
partnered with MillerCoors and the Minnesota Municipal Beverage Association as part of a
larger, state-wide food drive.
New to this year’s food drive, Edina Liquor – Southdale held a paper-shredding event that
allowed anyone to shred documents for free with a suggested food donation. Grausam said that
event alone raised 275 pounds of food.
“We are going to do what we did this year again next year in hope of added success,” Grausam
said. “We are also looking into other opportunities to allow our customers to help VEAP.”
Grausam has his sights set high for next year. “I’m setting a goal for next year to increase our
donations by 20 percent,” he said, which would bring donations to more than 2,000 pounds of
food.
