City receives recognition for financial reporting
Edina, Minn., April 12, 2011 – The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial
Reporting has been awarded to the City of Edina by the Government Finance Officers Association of
the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR). The
Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting
and financial reporting.
The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance
professionals. Edina’s CAFR for the fiscal year ended Dec. 31, 2009, was thoroughly reviewed by an
impartial panel of financial statement preparers, independent auditors, academics and other finance
professionals and deemed to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a
constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate the City’s financial story and motivate
people to read it.
This is the fourth consecutive year the City’s Finance Department, led by Finance Director John
Wallin and Assistant Finance Director Eric Roggeman, has received the recognition. Annually,
approximately 100 Minnesota municipalities receive the Certificate of Achievement.
“We are very proud to receive this recognition,” Wallin said. “We are constantly working to improve
our reports so that our residents and businesses find them easy to read and understand.”
