Public Works & Park Maintenance Facility open house to be
held May 18
Edina, Minn., May 2, 2011 – Have you ever passed a City crew working and wondered how they
build a street? Are you curious about the view from inside a dump truck? Want to see inside the
new Public Works & Park Maintenance Facility? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions,
mark your calendars for the City of Edina’s 2011 Public Works Open House.
To celebrate National Public Works Week, the City of Edina Public Works staff will show off their
equipment and discuss their job responsibilities at a rain-or-shine open house 3:30 to 7 p.m.
Wednesday, May 18. The event will be held at the new Public Works & Park Maintenance Facility,
7450 Metro Blvd. A display will be set up and a representative present for each of the following
areas: Park Maintenance, Utilities, Sign Shop, Carpentry, Streets, Electric, Equipment Maintenance
and Engineering. “Big trucks” and other equipment will be set up outside the building for children to
see close-up. Parents are encouraged to bring cameras. A limited number of hot dogs and other
snacks will be served.
“This year’s Public Works Week theme is ‘Serving You and Your Community.’ Public Works and
Parks professionals include those who manage water and sewer systems and those responsible for
maintaining public buildings, grounds and vehicles. In short, they are the people who maintain and
improve the systems and services vital to the community’s health, safety and comfort,” said City of
Edina Public Works Director Wayne Houle. “We are planning this open house to increase public
awareness of their contributions as well as to show off our new facility.”
