HomeMy WebLinkAboutCLP summer entertainmentContact: Debbie Townsend, Communications Coordinator Phone 952-826-0346 • dtownsend@EdinaMN.gov • EdinaMN.gov  FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE  Free Summer Concerts, Movies, Kid Events at Centennial Lakes Park  Edina, Minn., May 24, 2023 – Families will find a summer full of free entertainment with concerts three nights a week, twice-a-week daytime children’s performers and Friday outdoor movies at Centennial Lakes Park. Starting Sunday, June 4, free concerts will take place 7 p.m. Sundays, Mondays and most Wednesdays through the end of August, offering a variety of genres. Performers include Katy Vernon, known as the Ukelele Songbird (June 4); Blues bands Bluedog (July 30) and Hunker’d Down (July 12); fingerstyle guitarist Peter Ruddy (Aug. 7); ska-reggae band The Prizefighters (June 12); the Minneapolis Police Band (Aug. 6); and several big bands, including the First John Philip Sousa Memorial Band (June 11, July 16 and Aug. 13). June 19 features a special lineup, including performers Carolyne Naomi and Smash Jazz, during the Juneteenth Celebration from 4 to 8 p.m. New this season, once a month the 7 p.m. Wednesday concert will be replaced by a 6 p.m. Kids Special. First up is the highly requested Princess Sing-a-Long (June 21), followed by the Teddy Bear Band (July 19) and The Jolly Pops (Aug. 16). Children’s concerts are at 11 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday with popular regulars like the Wonderful Wood of Woody, Bob the Beachcomber and Wendy’s Wiggle, Jiggle and Jam! See animals July 18 with Kidpower Music and Live Animal Show or Aug. 17 with the Reptile and Amphibian Discovery Zoo. Other acts include jugglers, magicians and even a hula hoop artist (Aug. 22). Once a month on Fridays the park turns into an outdoor movie theater. Movies start at sunset. Check out “Top Gun: Maverick” (June 9), Disney’s “Jungle Cruise” (July 21) and “Strange World” (Aug. 18). All performances are in the Maetzold Amphitheater at Centennial Lakes Park, 7499 France Ave. S. Plenty of free parking is available, and concessions are sold at events. Outside food and beverages are allowed but no alcohol. Seating is available in the amphitheater or on the lawn behind it.
