The Statewide Geospatial Advisory Council, authorized by legislation approved in 2009, advises the Minnesota Geospatial Information Office (MnGeo) about issues, policies, priorities and investments needed to improve services statewide through the coordinated, affordable, reliable and effective use of geospatial technology. The council represents a cross-section of organizations that include counties, cities, universities, businesses, nonprofit organizations, federal and state agencies, and other stakeholder groups that benefit from geospatial technology. Foster is the City of Edina's GIS Administrator, working as an Engineering Technician since 2002. Her duties include project management, database administration and asset management of the City's infrastructure. She participates in a number of regional committees related to her work, including MN GIS/LIS Consortium, Hennepin County GIS User Group, and MnGeo's Emergency Preparedness Committee. Foster was appointed to a two-year term on the Statewide Geospatial Advisory Council, ending June 30, 2011. The group will meet four times per year. At its first meeting in January, Foster was named by her peers to serve as liaison between the group and the State Government Geospatial Advisory Council, a group that focuses on state agency issues. “I am honored to have been elected by my Statewide Council peers to be their liaison to the State Government Council,” said Foster, who was humbled by both the appointment and selection as liaison. “It’s exciting to know others value my knowledge and leadership to help better coordinate geospatial technology within Minnesota.” For more information on MnGeo or the Statewide Geospatial Advisory Council, visit www.mngeo.state.mn.us.
