Worthington accepts position with Ramsey County
Edina, Minn., Sept. 14, 2010 – Heather Worthington has resigned as the City of Edina’s Assistant City Manager to
accept a position as Deputy County Manager for Ramsey County.
Worthington announced her resignation at a work session of the Edina City Council on Monday, Sept. 13. Her last day
of work in Edina will be Wednesday, Oct. 6. Among Worthington’s accomplishments as Assistant City Manager are
her oversight of the 2008 comprehensive plan update, Edina Promenade development, recent Public Works small area
guide process, and the City’s involvement in Kids Vote Edina and Edina Day of Service. Under her leadership, the City’s
Information Technology Department was formalized earlier this year.
“Heather Worthington has been a first-rate manager for our community,” said Mayor Jim Hovland. “She has been
involved in matters such as the comprehensive plan update and the public discussion on the former Public Works
Facility. She has handled every assignment with great effectiveness and she has done a very fine job of managing the City
on an interim basis following the retirement of Gordon Hughes. We wish her all the best in life and in her new position
with Ramsey County.”
“It has been my great honor to serve the City of Edina with you.,” Worthington wrote in an email to the City staff upon
her resignation. “This is an outstanding organization because we have committed, high-quality employees. Thank you for
the opportunity to serve alongside you these past four years.”
Worthington is also the Edina’s current Interim City Manager, so there is an unexpected gap in leadership before Scott
Neal begins work as City Manager Nov. 8. Though Neal is currently employed full-time as City Manager in Eden Prairie,
he has already begun to familiarize himself with Edina and issues currently under consideration by the City.
“I am beginning to wind down my work as City Manager of Eden Prairie. Outside of my work [there], I have also begun
to meet with some Edina staff members and am confident that I will be able to hit the ground running in November,”
Neal said. “I wish Heather the best of luck in her new position.”
At a work session before its regular meeting Tuesday, Sept. 21, the City Council will discuss how to fill the interim City
Manager position. Mayor Jim Hovland said a decision will be made before Worthington ends her employment with the
City.
There are no immediate plans to fill the Assistant City Manager position. Neal said he plans to begin work in Edina and
determine staffing needs before advertising for the position.
