Edina’s Census mail participation rate higher than state,
national averages
Edina, Minn., Nov. 5, 2010 – The U.S. Census Bureau has proclaimed “America participated!” If that’s the case, Edina
led the way, with a mail participation rate 14 percent higher than the national average.
Eight-eight percent of households in Edina filled out and mailed back their 2010 Census questionnaire, a significant
achievement in a time of worldwide declining survey participation. Hennepin County’s participation rate was 82 percent
and Minnesota’s 81 percent. The national participation rate was 74 percent. The national results include an additional 2
percentage points of households that mailed back their forms after the April 27 cut-off that marked the transition to the
door-to-door follow-up operation.
“Edina residents deserve a pat on the back! This stellar participation in the Census ensures that for the next 10 years,
Edina will be accurately represented in the metropolitan community,” said Associate Planner Joyce Repya, who helped
coordinate the local Census effort.
Census results are still be tabulated and are not expected to be available until the fall of 2011.
