The 28-year-old grew up playing hockey in Michigan and has spent his career at ice arenas and recreational facilities. His resume includes hockey instructor, Zamboni driver, Operations Technician and Director of Scheduling at an indoor arena in Arizona; Recreation Coordinator at a Utah arena and, most recently, Ice Arena Manager for the City of Janesville, Wisconsin. He’s also overseen operations of baseball, softball and turf fields and fitness facilities. Buchholz is a Certified Ice Rink Manager, the highest professional designation from the U.S. Ice Rink Association. As General Manager, Buchholz will oversee Braemar Arena, which includes three indoor ice rinks, an outdoor rink and is home to the Edina Hornets and Da Beauty League. Much of his focus will be on the $45.2 million expansion and improvements coming to the Arena, including adding a fourth sheet of indoor ice. “Jesse is excited about the upcoming expansion plans and working with the staff, user groups and community to continue the great tradition of hockey and skating at the Arena,” said Tracy Petersen, Parks & Recreation Assistant Director – Recreation & Facilities. Buchholz’ responsibilities will also include Braemar Field, a 2.3-acre turf field covered by a dome November through April. It’s used by multiple athletic associations and groups, plus more than 4,000 visitors a year walk its indoor track. Buchholz begins his new position March 11.
