Edina Homes Targeted in Recent Burglaries
Edina, Minn., Feb. 1, 2024 – The Edina Police Department and surrounding law enforcement agencies have responded to multiple burglaries in the metro area within the last few months.
Edina detectives are working collaboratively with law enforcement partners to identify suspects. Police Departments have shared information and believe affluent neighborhoods are being
targeted by one or more organized groups. It is believed the suspects are not choosing houses at random and are watching them carefully prior to burglarizing them. The suspects are
stealing jewelry, safes and high-end merchandise. It’s believed the burglars are not violent and tend to choose unoccupied houses.
In some of the recent burglaries, video surveillance and evidence left at the scenes show a suspect riding to and from the location on a bicycle, likely to avoid detection. A get-away
vehicle is likely nearby. The Edina Police Department has provided extra patrols in targeted neighborhoods.
Residents should be aware of this crime trend and take additional steps to protect their homes and belongings. Please keep these tips in mind:
Install security alarms in your home and always set them when leaving your home.
If possible, have your alarm monitoring company contact police immediately and not attempt to contact you first.
Install security cameras and lights outside of your home and keep them on at night.
Install security cameras that can be monitored by you through your cell phone.
Make sure all doors and windows are locked when leaving your home.
Leave on a few lights in your home to make it look like someone is home when you are not.
Call 952-826-1610 to notify Edina dispatch when you are leaving your home for an extended period of time. Officers will check in on your property periodically for any suspicious activity.
Also, let your neighbors know that you will be gone for an extended period.
Register your cameras with Edina’s SafeCam program. In the event a crime has occurred in your neighborhood, Edina Police will have your contact information for you to check your cameras
for any useful footage. Register at EdinaMN.gov/Police.
If you see something, say something. All suspicious activity should be reported by calling 911.
