The teacher who received the email forwarded it to Edina High School Principal Paul Paetzel, who called Police at 9:02 a.m. Saturday, March 9. Police quickly responded to the high school, 6754 Valley View Road, evacuated the building and closed the parking lots. Police Officers and K9 units searched the building and grounds. After a thorough search, the property was deemed safe at approximately 11:24 a.m. There does not appear any threat to the public at the high school, but Police will patrol the area throughout the day in an abundance of caution. “Student and staff safety is our first priority, and we take threats extremely seriously,” said Dr. Stacie Stanley, Superintendent of Edina Public Schools, in a message to the community. “In the coming days, if you become aware of concerning behavior or threats in digital spaces like social media, emails or group chats, please share that information with your student’s teacher or a member of our administrative team.” Staff at several other metro area schools received similar emails. The Edina Police Department appreciates Edina Public Schools’ cooperation and is investigating the incident with several other law enforcement agencies. The threat remains under investigation; no other information is available at this time. -30-
