I. CALL TO ORDER
Mr. Van Valkenburg called the meeting to order at 7:30 a.m.
II. APPROVAL OF OCTOBER 20, 1988, MINUTES
Harriette Bach MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE OCTOBER 20, 1988, MEETING. Betty
Paugh seconded the motion. MOTION CARRIED. There was an error in the minutes on the
amount of money Edinborough received on shows; Pat Greer will correct the error in
her report.
III. DIRECTOR'S REPORT
See attached. The faculty brochure is complete and received a general positive
reaction. The board suggested creating a table of contents, adding a date especially
for the staff and board, numbering the pages, and making the donation page separate.
Mollie Paulson reported that no people took advantage of the shuttle bus offered at
the openings at Edinborough and the Art Center. For the next opening on December 4,
they will try to have more advertising and to work with Sue Weigle to have it stop at
senior buildings and the Senior Center. Mollie said they will need a volunteer each
time to drive the bus. Marion Ward volunteered to drive.
Diana is working on a yearly show at the 50th Street Library. It will probably have
to be scheduled far in advance, but it would be advantageous.
Diana indicated the Art Center is almost $20,000 over on class registration. The
Fund Drive in 1987 brought in $2690 and $590 was spent. In 1988, only $43 was spent
on the Fund Drive mailing.
IV. ROOM ADDITION UPDATE
Mr. Van Valkenburg indicated that several sets of plans have been drawn for the
addition. They are trying to minimize the impact of handicap accessibility. This
should be an agenda item for the Park Board's first meeting of the year. Mr. Kojetin
indicated the December 13, 1988, Park Board meeting will be a joint meeting with the
City Council to discuss the survey taken in the spring of 1988. The Art Center will
be a major concern of the study. The Council will give a work plan to the Park
Board.

V. CELEBRATE THE ARTS
Sandra Clark stated the benefit will not be held in 1989 since board members did not
supply her with the requested auction items and names. The general feeling of the
board was it is too early to provide auction items and names. Judy Smith suggested
making the December 16 holiday party the deadline for providing this information.
Mrs. Clark said the request for names and items now was a test of the board's
enthusiasm for the benefit. She said she and Sharon Hale cannot handle the function
alone. There was more discussion on where the benefit should be held and if the
October minutes were accurate in stating the benefit would be held at Edinborough.
Pat Greer suggested having the benefit later in the spring, April or May. There was
a discussion on what time of year to hold the benefit. Mrs. Clark asked Mr. Van
Valkenburg to try to get a liquor license for the function. Mr. Kojetin said you
will not be able to get a license because State Law says the City can only have one
license a year and that is for Edinamite. He said you can sell beer at Braemar
Clubhouse, but you have to have complimentary wine. Marion Ward strongly urged Mrs.
Clark not to hire the same band as last year.
Betty Paugh MOVED TO HOLD THE DECISION TO DECEMBER 16, 1988, AT THE HOLIDAY PARTY.
Judy Smith seconded the motion. MOTION CARRIED.
Mrs. Clark mentioned the committees she has assigned:
Publicity - Judy Smith
Mailing - Peggy Kelly and Dodie Paul
Invitation Design - Marion Ward, Kathy Gustafson, Sharon Hale, Sandra Clark
Auction - Mollie Paulson, Art Dickey
Liaison - Bob Kojetin
Set-up - Liz Eisenbrey
Food - Sharon Hale and Sandra Clark
Decoration Design -
VI. EDINBOROUGH REPORT
Pat Greer stated the demonstrations are going well when they are up by the office
area. It is difficult to get an audience in the amphitheatre. The recent issue of
the Highlander that was supposed to have the article on the Art Center will not be
published. She will try to get the article on the Art Academy children in the Sun.
Mrs. Greer indicated the revised Edinborough art gallery sales. See attached. Since
May 1988, Edinborough has been paying 20 percent of the net. From June 1987 to May
1988, $516.10 has gone to the Art Center and $1366.80 has gone to Edinborough. Total
sales for that period is $7881.00. The expenses include Mrs. Greer's salary,
invitations, and food. Mr. Kojetin asked if openings are a viable program.
VII. SUGGESTIONS FOR NEW BOARD MEMBER
Mr. Van Valkenburg said current board members can urge a candidate to apply. The
applicant will then be interviewed by the City Council. The Council will put notice
in the paper inviting people to apply. Diana sent a letter and application to Bill
O'Brien, a student of Bob Connolly, who expressed interest in applying. In a letter
he wrote to Diana, he stated the 7:30 a.m. meeting time is not "excessively
repulsive".
VIII.OTHER
Judy Smith mentioned the Ecumenical Service on November 20 sponsored by Norwest.
IX. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting adjourned at 8:35 a.m.
