April 23, 1998
Edina Art Center, 4:00 p.m.
Members Present: Heather Randall King, Elizabeth Eisenbrey George Kuebler, Art
Dickey, Mike Kelly and Sandra Clark
Members Absent: Gene Andersen, Dee Dege, Dodie Paul and Jim VanValkenburg
Staff Present: Diana Hedges and Phillip Johnson
I. CALL TO ORDER
Meeting was called to order at 4:02 p.m.
II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The minutes for last month's meeting were read, amended and approved.
HI. KITCHEN UPDATE
Mr. Dickey and Mrs. King reported that a determination had been made to
construct a modernized kitchen with upgraded equipment. The equipment would
include a dishwasher, ice cube maker, refrigerator, warming drawers and two
commercial microwave ovens. New base and wall cabinets and a new sink will
also be installed. Estimated cost is $17,000. Three bids will be obtained.
A discussion ensued regarding the reasons for a reduction in the projected budget
for the kitchen from approximately $38,000 to the new figure.
IV. MEDIA STUDIOS
Phil Johnson gave a progress report concerning construction completion.and
equipment specifications. The walls and ceilings are completed. Interior painting
was underway. Purchase orders for computers and student furniture had been
submitted for approval. Video cameras and editing equipment would be ordered
by the middle of May. Bob Kojetin had begun constructing the work counters.
Ms. Hedges described plans for a dedication on July 1st and the Grand Opening on
July 4th. The dedication will be an invitation only event with the general public
invited for the Grand Opening.
V. BY-LAWS
The discussion about By-Laws was tabled until the May meeting when more board
members will be present.
VI. NEW BOARD MEMBER
Mr. VanValkenburg has been gathering nominations. This topic was tabled until
the May meeting when he will be present.

VII. DIRECTOR'S REPORT
A. Classes
Registration for summer classes started April 16th. By noon, almost 100
campers had been registered. A newsletter listing camps and classes that still
have openings will go out in June. Our students have been remarkably patient
with the construction.
B. Tours
An informational meeting for our September tour to England is scheduled for
April 30 at 7 p.m. We do have openings and need a few more people to make
it a go. We are also scheduling trips to San Miguel and other areas.
C. Gallery
Renovations are underway and we hope you like them. We will gain about
nine feet of gallery space by eliminating the window areas and extending down
the hall into the media studios.
Thursday, April 30 - Blithe Spirits opening from 5 - 7 p.m. Bill Dietrichson's
drawings and Keith Williams' sculpture. This should be a very interesting
exhibit. Hope you can all come to the opening. Our new carpeted walls be
installed by then.
Student Show Opening May 21 from 5-7 p.m.
D. Garage Sale
Bring in items June 8-10th. See Schedule for details.
E. Edina Art Fair - June 5-7
We will not have the root beer stand this year. We will have the Bowl-a-Rama
Pottery Booth and the Crosstown Camera Club booth and facepainting. Let us
know if you can work.
E. Other
1. Dodie Paul is working on the instructor bios.
2. Heather King has done several press releases.
3. Sandy Clark had worked for the last two months on the EAC luncheon.
Nice invitations, Sandy!
4. Liz Eisenbrey had informed us that the EAC will receive a $500 grant
from the Federated Women's Club to purchase computer software for
children. Liz will attend the meeting to accept the grant.
5. We are receiving $450 from the Edina Golden K's for our children's
scholarship program.
6. Next board meeting is scheduled for May 28th.
