Meeting called to order by Chair, Jim VanValkenburg at 7:30 a.m.
I. APPROVAL OF OCTOBER MINUTES
Peter R. Spokes MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES FROM THE OCTOBER 21,
1993 MEETING. Dodie Paul seconded. MOTION CARRIED.
II. FIRESIDE SUPPERS
Diana Hedges stated that the Fireside Suppers were successful and
recommended doing the event again next. The board and staff time
required was minimal. The only expense was $30 for the cost of
printing the invitations. The event brought in $2,760.
Thanks to the six homes that hosted the suppers this year:
Gene & Ken Anderson, Pat Bruns & Priscilla Hill, Suzie Kelm & David
Talbot, Diana Hedges & Lyle Hoofnagle, Bradley & Jenny Benn, and
Dianne & Dan Farber.
III. CELEBRATE THE ARTS, COUNTRY STYLE
The Steering Committee has a meeting, January 26, 9:30 a.m.
The band will be the "Nite Train" with line dancing.
IV. CLASSES
The Winter Class schedule is out.
Special event workshop with the Edina Historical Society and the
Edina Senior Center, will be held March 20, called "Baskets &
Bunnies".
V. GALLERY REPORT
Edinborough Park - Susan Kelm's World photography.
VI. SUGGESTION FOR NEW BOARD MEMBERS
There are openings for the Art Center Board. Jim VanValkenburg
requested that current board members get names to him as soon as
possible so that the proper forms can be sent. Board members
suggested: Dr. John Hill, Kit & Sue Aaron, and Jim Sullivan. The
new board members will be appointed by the City Council.
V I. ALL VOLUNTEER AWARDS
Ms. Hedges stated that April 20th is the All Volunteer Awards
reception. Suggestions for the award should be directed to her.
VIII BOARD MEETING TIME CHANGE
Heather Randall King suggested moving the meeting time from the
morning to the evening. There was a short discussion regarding the
time change.
Peter R. Spokes MOVED TO HAVE THE ART CENTER BOARDING MEETING TIME
CHANGE FROM 7:30 A.M. TO 4:30 P.M. Sandy Clark seconded. MOTION
CARRIED. The February 17th meeting will be held at 4:30 p.m.
IX. OTHER
A. Bob Kojetin's Retirement
The Art Center Board thanked Bob for making things happen and
keeping the Art Center going.
Mr. Kojetin stated that seventeen years ago the Art Center was
one of the first "parks" that he opened as Director. Joan
Lonsbury was the Park Board Chair at the time. The Art Center
was originally to be at 44th Street Park. However, the
current building became available about the same time and the
decision was made to purchase this home, which was already on
the long range plan.
The board gave Mr. Kojetin a round of applause.
John Keprios the new Park Director was introduced.
B. Diana Hedges
Ms. Hedges directed the board members attention to a hand out,
in regard to Bob Kojetin's retirement party.
C. Paul Foss
Jim VanValkenburg noted that Paul Foss has passed away. He
was instrumental in developing the upstairs and the Margaret
Foss Gallery. The Board will send a sympathy card.
Mr. VanValkenburg noted that the financial statement for the
past eleven months shows a $15,000 improvement compared to
last year's balance. Diana Hedges was complimented on her
fine work.
D. Dodie Paul suggested having a brief history of the Art Center
placed on a plaque or typed and framed. There was a brief
discussion and Ms. Paul stated she would follow-up with it.
