APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of the September 28, 2006 meeting were read. Ken moved and Liz seconded; approved. MEDIA STUDIOS Phil passed out recommendations for the media studio for 2007 (attached). He stressed the need to purchase new film to video equipment because it is impossible to get parts for our projectors. He said this is the one part of our business that people can't do at home and there is no competition in the do it yourself area while for some of the other things we do, the equipment is getting cheap enough for people to have their own. We would need about $8000. Ken said he would include it in the CIP (Capital Improvement Program) he is preparing. Phil said it is difficult to focus advertising on the group who might use this and asked for ideas for other ways to spread the word. He said the Sun will only promo events not ongoing programs and classes. Linda said how about a "Media through the year's event" Heather suggested a table at Jerry's on a busy day to hand out flyerS or getting Barbara Flanagan to write a feature. Phil said he is happy to go out and present to any group., . GALLERY REPORT Brad reported that the Orchid Show was a late addition to the schedule and therefore short. He hoped some of the Board could stay for the opening. The orchids that were brought in just happened to match some of the paintings. Ken said he thought Tim Zimmermann worked with Orchids and could be involved if we did this again (or was it lilies?) Brad said the next event in the Gallery is the Gift Sale in November and December then we are planning a Silent Auction in January. Linda commented on the Juried Show that we should give the judges a clearer mandate that we want the show to be representative of all the kinds of work being done by members. Maybe this should be done when they are contacted about judging in case they have any problem with that. Linda moved that we do this and Heather seconded, passed. OUTREACH Linda reported that Denise Bunkert's work is up at Jerry's Café. Brad reported that we now have Linda's work on display at the Welcome Center inside the main entrance of the Community Center and that he had put up Italian photographs at Planning and Engineering Dept. EDINA PUBLICART COMMITTEE Linda reported that we just had a field trip to Michael's studio in St. Paul; that the work is progressing well and will be beautiful; that installation is scheduled for Dec. 10 and that we need to plan a dedication event. She said the water billing is up to the 4th round and that we have 60-75 cards with many pledging as much as $25/quarter. She talked about the promenade that is planned to run from Centennial to Southdale with walking and bike paths and that the Hedberg project might be a keystone of that located at Centennial Lakes Park. We are planning a Request for Proposals for Grandview Square 2007. and the current'sculptures may move to City Hall. CIP (Capital Improvement Plan) Ken proposed that the Board approve his plan to prepare a CIP that would ask for funds over 4 years to make an addition to the Art Center in 2010. It would be a 2 level 3200 Sq ft addition with pottery on the lower level. He would hit organizations for funds to outfit the spaces. He will prepare it and take it to Council. He said we don't need the fanciest facilities but want the best programs. He moved and Liz 2nd, approved. He commented that we have to get across to Council members all that we do here. OTHER .! Ruth commented that this is a great place to hold a party. Her mother's party was wonderful and Phil and Naomi had a great anniversary party. She said other places she checked wanted $1800 and that we should set a price and promote this use more. Especially MIKE KELLY!!! • Gifts! tifts! Gifts! Nov. 2-Dec. 23 Our committee is busily at work creating handcrafted gift boxes and wrapping paper. Also if anyone can help with set up on Halloween, we'll be here from 9am-9pm. Also need people to send out postcards and help promote the Gift Sale. Gene showed a box.
