At the banquet, Mayor Jim Hovland surprised Maetzold with the Citizen’s Award. Maetzold has served on the Edina Crime Prevention Fund Board since 1994. Hovland thanked Maetzold for his 30 years of service on the Edina Crime Prevention Board and mentorship over the years. “It was just so meaningful to be recognized for the work that I've done over the years for the community,” said Maetzold. “It’s so much appreciated.” Maetzold’s passion for crime prevention and commitment to the Crime Prevention Fund Board has remained steadfast through the years. He has been instrumental in organizing numerous initiatives that have strengthened the connection between the Edina Police Department and the community. The Edina Crime Prevention Fund supports a variety of Police Department programs, including the motorcycle unit, mobile surveillance unit, K-9 unit, Explorers program and bicycle patrol. The organization also helps support community engagement efforts such as Citizens Academy, Fall into the Arts Festival, “Beyond the Badge” video series, youth programs and more.
