The 2023 Public Safety Employee of the Year award was given to Records Specialist Kimberly Tubbs. Tubbs has been with the department since 2020. She was given the award for her help in implementing and training staff on a new software system for the 911 dispatch center and the Records Division. Tubbs also took on a lot of extra duties when there was a staffing transition in the Records Division, and when her assistance was needed after two homicides in 2023. Firefighter Allie Adie was named the 2023 Firefighter of the Year. Adie has been with the department since 2020. She was given the award for her dedicated training efforts within and outside of the Fire Department, as both a student and instructor. Adie also promotes family-oriented traditions at the Fire Department that bring together firefighters, spouses, children and even extended family members. Adie’s positive and upbeat personality were also noted in her nomination. “This award is no match to the honor of serving alongside each and every one of you every day,” said Adie to her colleagues at the banquet. “So, thank you.” The 2023 Mike Siitari Officer of the Year award was presented to Sgt. Darin Cizek. Cizek has been with the department since 2003. He was given the award for his off-duty actions during a 2023 shooting in Edina in which he used quick thinking and concise communication to help direct incoming resources to the threat. In 2023, Cizek also transitioned to overseeing the Investigations Division. He performed 40 background checks for various positions within the agency which were crucial for staffing the Police Department effectively. “Sgt. Cizek's distinguished conduct during times of crisis alongside his diligent work in his administrative role set him apart and he is truly deserving of this distinguished award,” said Chief Todd Milburn. The Public Safety Employee of the Year and Firefighter of the Year awards were new awards for 2023. In addition to the three employee of the year awards, many other staff in the departments were recognized for their hard work over last year.
