HomeMy WebLinkAboutNew Officers Sworn InContact: Matthew Cords, Communications Intern Phone 952-826-0347 • commintern2@edinamn.gov • EdinaMN.gov  FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Two New Officers Sworn In With Edina Police Department  Edina, Minn., March 22. 2024 – Two new Edina Police Officers took the Law Enforcement Oath of Honor during a ceremony at City Hall Monday, March 18. Moises Martinez and Paige VanPelt were officially sworn in as the two newest officers with Edina Police. Each has an honorable history of service to their communities, state and nation and bring a wide variety of skills and experiences to the police force. Martinez was born in Los Angeles, California. He began going to community college to major in law enforcement in 2012 while working as a commercial roofing apprentice. Despite having an interest in policing, Martinez put his law enforcement career on hold and continued roofing. In 2015, he enlisted in the Army/National Guard as an Infantryman where he served in the Middle East. In 2023, Martinez returned to school at North Hennepin Technical College where he earned his associate degree and joined Edina Police Cadet program. Martinez was promoted to Officer in January 2023, making him the third Cadet in the past year to be promoted out of the program. VanPelt was born and raised in Georgia. She enlisted in the Air Force and served eight years before moving to Lake Havasu City, Arizona. There, VanPelt continued her career of service as a police officer for almost four years until moving to Minnesota to be closer to family. “Policing is not just a profession, it is a calling – a commitment to the highest ideals of justice, integrity and selflessness,” said Police Chief Todd Milburn. “It is a duty to protect and serve, even in the face of danger, and to uphold the rights and dignity of every resident.
