HomeMy WebLinkAboutEdina Police Substation Ribbon CuttingContact: Lauren Siebenaler, Senior Communications Coordinator Phone 952-833-9537 • LSiebenaler@EdinaMN.gov • EdinaMN.gov  FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE  Edina Police Cut Ribbon to Celebrate Opening of New Substation at Southdale Center  Edina, Minn., June 17, 2024 – The Edina Police Department, in partnership with Southdale Center, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday, June 13, to celebrate the opening of a new police substation located near Entrance 13 of the shopping mall, 10 Southdale Center. “[People] can only shop if they feel comfortable being here and they can only shop once they are enjoying some level of prosperity in our community,” said Edina Mayor Jim Hovland. “So whether it’s here at Southdale mall or in our broader community of Edina, we’ve got this great police force that is making sure that people feel safe and comfortable where they live and they work and they play.” The substation includes one office for two Retail Crime Investigators, Mike Seeger and Sean Young. The two started their work in retail crimes at the beginning of the year. They respond to all shoplifting and crimes at businesses throughout the city. “We are so excited to have the substation here,” said Southdale Center General Manager Judy Tullius. “We have been working very diligently on improving the safety and security of the site. We're developing a brand new and stronger security department within the center and we have a brand new Security Director. We have also added a K-9 unit to the center.” The new substation is not open to the public and does not provide any public services. Those looking to file or obtain a copy of a police report or do any other business with the Police Department must go to the main Edina Police Department location, 4801 W. 50th St. “I just want to say we’re super pleased to be here and we’re very thankful for the relationship here that we have in place,” said Police Chief Todd Milburn. “We’re really excited about the future.” To learn more about the Edina Police Department, visit EdinaMN.gov/Police. -30-
