Drop by the open house at Hughes Pavilion at Centennial Lakes Park, 7499 France Ave. S., anytime between 5 and 8 p.m. to view designs and give your feedback. Staff and consultants on the project will be on hand to answer questions and help explain various aspects of the project. The 43-acre Fred Richards Park, almost double the size of Centennial Lakes Park, is being created from the former golf course into a space with both active play and passive nature enjoyment. It will include basketball and pickleball courts, a playground for kids of all abilities, lawn games areas, picnic spaces, trails, wetlands and wildlife habitat. The park is located north of West 77th Street and south of West Shore Drive. A playground and covered picnic area exist on the east side of the park off Parklawn Avenue, and the Nine Mile Creek Regional Trail runs through the parkland. A new access road and entrance is being built off 77th that will link to parking, the new playground, trails and a possible food and beverage space. For those who are unable to attend the open house, the designs will be posted online at EdinaMN.gov/frp after July 8 for review and comments. Funding for the Fred Richards Park project comes from the half-cent sales and use tax approved by Edina voters in 2022.
