Longstanding employee promoted to Deputy
City Manager
Edina, Minn., Sept. 21, 2005 – Eric Anderson was recently promoted to Deputy City Manager of
the City of Edina.
An Edina native, Anderson began work for the City of Edina in 1987 as MIS Coordinator and HRA
Project Analyst. With a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science from Hamline
University and a master’s degree in public administration from the Humphrey Institute, he was
promoted to Assistant Finance Director in 1989 and Assistant City Manager in 1998.
As Assistant City Manager, Anderson served as second-in-command to City Manager Gordon
Hughes. With his September promotion, Anderson assumes complete responsibility of the
Assessing and Finance Departments, overseeing the City’s budget, appraisals and special
assessments, among other things.
“I’ve had the privilege of knowing Eric ever since he was a student at Hamline and at the Humphrey
Institute at the University of Minnesota,” Hughes said. “Ever since joining the City as a full-time
employee, he has exemplified excellence, hard work and a positive approach to public service. I’m
pleased that we have him on our team and delighted to have him take on new responsibilities with
the City.”
In addition to the duties of his job, Anderson has been active in the community, serving as an active
member of the Edina-Morningside Rotary Club and Edina Chamber of Commerce’s Government
